About the Organization

Wisdom in Education is an online journal that publishes full-length articles; essays; reviews of books, films, videos, software and curricula; interviews, conversations; and relevant artistic expression. Its purpose is to interface academic and practitioner perspectives within the educational communities of the California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) service region. Articles range from scholarly and action research of teaching and learning to broad essays on pedagogically important issues that focus on specific teaching issues or techniques, to relevant creative expression. The general intent is to share theoretically stimulating and practically useful information and advice and perspectives, with and among educators. The variety of formats is intended to encourage inclusion of diverse voices and expressions relevant to learning.

The mission of the College of Education (COE) at CSUSB is to promote and support the development of wise, reflective, professional educators who will work toward a just and diverse society that embraces democratic principles. The wise educator is defined at COE as one who:

  • Possesses rich subject matter knowledge.
  • Uses sound pedagogical judgment.
  • Demonstrates practical knowledge of context and culture.
  • Acknowledges the relativism associated with variations in the values and priorities of both their peers and their students.
  • Displays comfort with the uncertainty of the outcomes of instructional decisions.
(College of Education Conceptual Framework, 2000)

The editors share this commitment to wisdom and hold the intention that the journal will function in a way that further articulates this mission.

Formats include:

  • Features - Scholarly, research-based articles
  • Perspectives -Essays addressing current issues, policies, and philosophies
  • Interviews - Visiting scholars, local experts
